How to Safely Dispose of Light Bulbs

Light bulb disposal varies depending on the type of bulb.

While incandescent and halogen lights can be safely disposed of in the trash, some lights are hazardous and require specialized disposal. Examples of hazardous lights include compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and high-intensity discharge lights (HIDs), and LED lights (including LED string lights or holiday lights). These could be disposed of at your local Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) or by using the Waste Management mail-in program called LampTracker at a cost. The cost varies depending on the size and quantity of lights being mailed in.
