SB1383 Organics
Understanding the Requirements of SB 1383 and Organics Waste
Everyone in California is required to sort waste properly.
SB 1383 is a California law that helps reduce waste sent to landfills. It requires everyone, including residents, businesses, schools, and government agencies, to separate organic waste, recycling, and trash.
The goal of the mandate is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by keeping compostables and recyclables out of the landfill, which helps create a sustainable future for the next generation.

What is Included in Organics?
Organic waste includes food scraps, yard trimmings, and food-soiled paper. These materials should be placed in the organics container (green) instead of the trash. Recyclable items should also be kept separate from garbage.
Putting the right items in the right container helps reduce pollution, create compost, and protect the environment.
How Do I Avoid These Additional Charges?
You can avoid additional charges by recycling right. In partnership with Waste Management, the Oro Loma Sanitary District provides collection services and information to help customers follow the law.
