The Oro Loma Sanitary District proudly honored local students for their outstanding creativity and environmental awareness at the 2026 HeART for the Bay Awards dinner on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. Families, teachers, and community members gathered to celebrate the students’ achievements, which highlighted themes of sustainability, recycling, and the protection of the San Francisco Bay.

“We were impressed by the creativity and environmental leadership demonstrated by our local students,” said General Manager Jimmy Dang. “This year, we received a remarkable 65 student entries from schools across the District’s service area, with nineteen students were selected as contest winners and honored at a special awards dinner.”

The annual HeART for the Bay Artwork and Video Contest invited students in grades K-12 to explore this year’s theme, “Love Our Bay,” through original artwork and video submissions that showed how everyday actions help protect the San Francisco Bay. The program encouraged students to reflect on environmental stewardship and to express their ideas through creativity and innovation. This contest is part of the District’s ongoing commitment to environmental education and community engagement.

“The submissions were truly inspiring,” said Board President Shelia Young. “I am proud to see the next generation share their perspectives on sustainability and environmental stewardship.”
